INEC ready to conduct credible elections in 2023 – Oyo REC

The newly posted Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo state, Dr Rahman Adeniran, on Wednesday declared that the commission is ready to conduct a credible elections in 2023.

Dr Adeniran said this during a courtesy visit to the Oyo State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), CC Adaralewa Michael at the Command’s state headquarters, Agodi Ibadan

According to the REC, the commission is committed to conducting a hitch-free and generally acceptable general elections come 2023.

He stressed that towards achieving this, necessary sensitisation programme for the electorate by the commission was already ongoing nationwide to get Nigerians fully prepared for the elections.

The REC then solicited the support of the Oyo state Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) “before, during and after the general elections in 2023”.

Dr Adeniran while seeking for continual support from Oyo NSCDC command in protection of INEC office, election equipment, personnel and other materials meant for the coming general elections, educated the Oyo NSCDC Command on the workings of the BVAS.

The Oyo state Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Michael Adaralewa, promised the commission of the Corps readiness to support INEC as “part of national assets which is our mandate to protect”. 

Adaralewa assured the REC of the Corps commitment to provide 24hours security coverage at the INEC office both at the state headquarters and local government areas respectively.

He then lauded the newly posted INEC REC for his visit despite little time available before the general elections.
