INEC registers 1.9m voters in Enugu




A total of 1,961586 persons have been registered with the (INEC) in Enugu state towards effective participation in the .
Of this number, about1, 454, 974 persons have so far collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), INEC Resident in charge of the state, Emeka Ononamadu disclosed this yesterday while briefing newsmen on the level of preparedness of the commission towards the conduct following the concluded Continuous Voter Registration exercise which ended on August 31, 2018.
Contrary to the view that there was apathy during the CVR exercise and that INEC might not have done the needful, Ononomadu said Enugu people came out massively for the exercise and was number five state among the 36 states and the number two state in the five South eastern states.
“Enugu is the second state in the South East after Abia with the highest registration.
Enugu is also the fifth state with the highest registration among the 36 states and FCT.
“This is an indication that so many Nigerians in Enugu are now ready to be part of the 2019 general election.
If all the PVCs in Enugu are collected by their owners, a total of 1,961,586 will be going into in the state,” he said.
The INEC REC explained that as at the end of August when the CVR ended, a total of 5,427 registrants got transferred into Enugu while 11,665 registrants applied for replacement of their defaced or lost PVCs.
He also explained that so far, all the PVCs for those registered in 2017 have been printed and were being distributed except for few omissions of about 3,701 that were being printed.
Ononamadu further explained that the CVR exercise went well in the South East contrary to the notion that it did not go well in the zone.
