Infrastructure devt: Yobe signs MoU with Qatar charity organisation

The Yobe state government Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Qatar Charity Organisation for the construction of several infrastructure projects in the state.

Addressing journalists shortly after the signing ceremonies in Abuja, the executive director, Qatar Charity Organisation, Hamdi Elsayed Abdo, said key infrastructure interventions would be made in the 17 local government areas of the state.

He further said the project would cover provision of boreholes and handheld pumps in communities across the state, adding that schools, hospitals and mosques would be built.

Abdo also said the choice of Yobe for the project was informed by the security challenges in the state, adding that 17 other states across the country were being provided with similar facilities by the Qatar charity organisation.

Speaking earlier, Governor Mai Mala Buni conveyed the state’s gratitude to the organisation for its kind gesture, pledging to give necessary support for the actualisation of the project.

According to him, security has greatly improved in Yobe.

“I would like to thank the Qatar charity organisation for extending this kind gesture to Yobe state. Security in Yobe has tremendously improved. We will cooperate with you to ensure that this laudable project succeeds,” he said.

The MoU was signed on behalf of the Yobe state government by the governor’s chief of staff, Abdullahi Yusuf and the senior special assistant on legal matters, Ahmed Guneri, respectively.
