Insecurity: Army receives caches of arms and ammunition

In an effort to boost the counter insurgency warfare, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes, the Nigerian Army Monday received consignment of arms and ammunitions from Slovakia.

Briefing journalists at the Ndamdi Azikiwe international airport Abuja, head Nigeria Army Operation Monitoring team Brig Gen. Robert Aiyenigba said the arms and ammunitions which comprised of light/ medium weapons and Army inventory is geared towards boosting the counter insurgency war in the North-east, violent crimes and banditry in other parts of the country.

General Aiyenigba added that this set of arms and ammunitions is the first batch of weapons expected to arrive the country.  

The Boeing 747-400 cargo aircraft that conveyed the consignment landed about 3: pm.
