Insecurity: Civil Defence gets surveillance equipment

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been better equipped by the federal government through the donation of surveillance vehicles and other equipment for effective policing of in tackling the vandalism of Critical Infrastructure and National Assets.

Presenting the first set of the vehicle to the journalists yesterday in Abuja, the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin, expressed gratitude to the federal government through the office of the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.
Abolurin said the Corps, shadowed with the responsibility of protecting the critical infrastructure of government such as PHCN cables, telecommunication installations, oil pipelines and gas, railway, transport sector and other assets, would do everything possible to maximise the trust given to it through the equipment.

He added that with the recent development where critical infrastructure such as Telecommunication installations have been attacked by insurgent group, the surveillance equipment would assist their effective monitoring of such installations by the personnel deployed to such critical areas.

Abolurin said “on behalf of the Corps, I appreciate the kind gesture of the federal government in supporting the Corps to confront the menace of vandalism which has bedeviled the society thereby affecting rapid development in the Nation.”

Abolurin, therefore, charged his personnel to see the equipment donated as a step of receiving more in no distance time, if they can convince the government and the citizens that they are capable of tackling the hydra-headed challenges “emanating from the act of sabotage by few individuals who engaged themselves in the act of vandalism and unwarranted attack on the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure due to their selfish interest by causing untold hardship on the citizenry.”
