Insecurity: FG, Zamfara govt partner on lasting solution

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, has said that the ministry will work with the Zamfara state government to provide support and lasting solutions to thousands of displaced persons in the state.

In a statement made available to Blueprint in Abuja Sunday, which was signed by the special assistant on media to the minister, Halima Oyelade, the minister disclosed this when the governor of Zamfara state His Excellency, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, paid a courtesy call on the Honourable minister in Abuja on the January 16.

The meeting, which had in attendance the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Tijjani Umar and top officials of the Zamfara state government, had discussions centred on the humanitarian issues in Zamfara state and options for providing lasting solutions by way of robust collaborations between the ministry and the state.

Faruoq expressed her pleasure at the governor’s visit noting that it was timely and a welcome gesture, even as she commended the governor for the efforts of his government in managing the situation and providing immediate relief and support to the victims of attacks in the state.

“While the recent spate of banditry in parts of Zamfara state is unfortunate and worrisome, I am confident that collaborative efforts between the government at the state and federal levels, as well as other relevant stakeholders, can work together to ensure victims are provided with immediate relief and durable solutions to their plight,” she said.

The governor, on his part, congratulated the minister on her appointment, stating that, in the few months she has steered the affairs of the ministry, she has proved she is the right person for the job.

‘’As a virtuous daughter of Zamfara state, I had no doubt that she would perform excellently well and impact positively on the many Nigerians affected by humanitarian emergencies, disasters and social issues,” he said.
