Insecurity: From Gujba, INEC relocates voting centres to Damaturu in Yobe, barely 24 hours to polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Yobe state has
relocated all voting centres of Gujba local government council to
Damaturu, the state capital due to emerging security threats.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Yobe, who disclosed this to Blueprint said the relocation became necessary to safe-guard the lives and property of voters.

“As result of last week attack, the stakeholders in the local government asked us to relocate all centres due to security threats. After verifying the complains from our Electoral Officers and the subsequent security meeting held on Thursday, all voting centres in Gujba local government have been relocated to Phase one secretariat in Damaturu”.

“The Change became necessary considering the fact that when the
insurgents came last week, they were asking where the election was
holding and this is very dangerous,” he said.

The INEC had earlier this week relocated all centres in the local
government to Gujba town, Goniri and Buniyadi but that could not solve
the problem hence the new arrangement.

Gujba is the home local government of the All Progressives Congress
(APC) gubernatorial aspirant in the state and the APC National
Secretary, Mai Mala Buni.

Last Saturday, about four army and civilians were killed.

Blueprint further gathered from the REC, that Gulani, Geidam and
Yunusari local governments that were considered as vulnerable, will
hold the elections at their various local government centres.
