As parts of efforts to detect and report early warning threats in Damaturu and Potiskum, African for peace Development and Empowerment Foundation (AFRYDEV) with funding support from USAID through Nigerian Northeast Connection has distributed gadgets and equipment to support community to detects and reports conflict indicators and triggers of violence in their communities.
In his opening remarks at the flagged-off ceremony, the director disaster state ministry of Humanitarian Kaku Jawi Bizi appreciated the USAID and NEC through AFRYDEV for the support for building capacity of communities in the state.
Bizi said, “For us as the beneficiaries let’s commit ourselves in practicing what we have learnt from the beginning of this project to date and make proper use of the items given”.
On her part, the Executive Director AFRYDEV, Mrs. Maryam Aje as well as Yobe program officer NEC Mr. Musa Musa Prince, gave an overview of the project, saying the gadget and equipment provided for supporting community platforms in Damaturu will help detect and report early warning threats.
On his part, a director from state emergency management agency (SEMA) Ibrahim Jalo Muhammad, urged all the participants from community members and stakeholder to put more hands on desk to ensure sustainability of this project.
Speaking, the community development officer in Damaturu LGA, Danji Alhaji Abubakar, revealed that it is their responsibility to ensure the sustainability of this intervention project because “we have received training and get connections with security agencies and also the relevant government agencies in such a way that the more we report early warning threats the more we get early response”.
