Insecurity: Igangan community urges Makinde to visit

The people of Igangan in Ibarapa area of Oyo state at the weekend called on Governor Seyi Makinde to personally visit the affected communities in Ibarapaland to see for himself the true state of things.

Also, they urged the Oyo state government to set up an investigative committee to look into all the allegations of atrocities and crimes leveled against the embattled Seriki Fulani of Oyo state, Abdulkadir Saliu.

Spokesperson for Youths and Igangan Community and Convener, Igangan Development Advocates, Mr Oladokun Oladiran, said that there is the need for Gov Makinde to visit the area and see the havoc that has been unleashed on the residents by criminal elements.

According to Mr Oladiran, with the tension of possible reprisal attack in the community, the dusk to dawn curfew on the entire Igangan and its environs became inevitable.

“Igangan is going smoothly, things are fine. The town imposed a curfew of 9pm to 5am just to secure lives and property. It was the joint decision of the monarch, his Chiefs, council of elders and all the bodies and associations in Igangan. It was a consensus and everyone and anything from 9pm, there would be patrol. This is to prevent reprisal attacks” he said.

The spokesperson stressed that the decision on the curfew was arrived at by the people of the town including, the traditional ruler, community leaders, Youth groups among other residents.

He however, advised residents of Igangan community hold no grudge against law abiding Fulanis.
