Insecurity: NBAIS urges FG to take teaching of religion serious

National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) has urged the federal government to take the teaching of religion seriously in order to address the insecurity challenges facing the country.

NBAIS Acting Registrar Professor Muhammad Shafiu Abdullahi who stated this Friday, during a special prayer for the nation at National Mosque Abuja, explained that prayer and government effort can help address Nigeria’s numerous challenges.

Professor Abdullahi said “there is nothing we can offer to the nation than prayer, prayer is really great. To our understanding it is only prayer that can solve our problems in this country. That is why we choose this time. Most especially within the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah with hope that Almighty Allah will answer our prayers and solve our problems.

“That is why now we are seeking help from Almighty Allah. We will not say there is no need to seek assistant or foreign help from countries like England, America and others, but to us prayer is greater, he added.

On whether religion preachers should be regulated to mitigate against extremism, NBAIS Boss said, ” As far as Islam is concern, Islam is a regulated religion by Allah. If you are to follow the teaching of Quran and Sunnah there will be no any problem. But to implement this, there is need for the government to come into it.

He said “To us is for government to take teaching religion very seriously. Because I know there are problems in our schools and we want government to look into it”.
