Insecurity: Ohanaeze faults Buhari for blaming Igbo leaders

Apex Igbo cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has frowned at the blame heaped  on Ndigbo and their leaders for insecurity in the South-east in recent time by President Muhammadu Buhari who was quoted as saying that Igbo leaders have failed to rein in their people.

Ohanaeze wondered in a statement signed by the national publicity secretary, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, how Igbo leaders are to blame for insecurity in South -east when there is insecurity everywhere in Nigeria including Buhari’s own state, Katsina, where bandits have wrecked havoc.

Ohanaeze, reasoned that if Igbo leaders knew about insecurity in South-east, Northern leaders would as well account for the many killings in the North.

The organisation concluded that insecurity is a national malady which the federal government has to tackle instead of singling out South-east for vilification because certain Nigerians were killed somewhere in the South-east.

“The attention of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide led by Ambassador Professor George Obiozor has been drawn to the statement that made various headlines where “President Muhammadu Buhari flays killings in the South-east,” the statement read in part.
