Insecurity: OSCOTECH old students make case for state police

The ex-sportmen of the Osun State College of Technology (OSCOTECH) has advised each state of the federation to urgently consider formation of state police to tackle the insecurity that is plaguing the nation.


Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo, capital of Osun state, the coordinators of ex-sportmen/women association of the institution, Messrs Adegbenga Onaleye and AbduGaniy Kareem, expressed worry over the level of insecurity in the country.


They disclosed that the association, which is a segment of the alumni association, focused on promotion of sport to develop their alma mata.


According to the association, the theme of this year event, “Insecurity, The Bane of Our Economic Development, would be discussed by the pioneer rector of the institution, Prof Olu Odeyemi and Dr. Saheed Timehin.


They stated that the choice of the topic was occasioned by the threat that insecurity has posed to the development of economic of the nation.


“This is the right time for each state to have their own state police. There must be active participation of those local hunters that knows the corners of the forest where the criminals are hiding.


“Security should also go beyond the government alone. People should also support government by exposing any suspicious and strange movement in their communities.


“Also, moral teaching should be returned back to school. The lack of moral on the part of some students is another factor that contributed to the spate of insecurity.


Other programmes, accordion to the planning committee include, Symposium/Award Presentation, Oscotech Sport family football match and Departmental Final match, on Thursday.
