Insecurity raising child trafficking, labour cases in Oyo – C’ttee

Oyo state Steering Committee on Child Labour on Tuesday alerted that the present insecurity situation in Nigeria has resulted into increase in child labour across the country.

The committee raised the alarm in a communiqué issued and made available to newsmen at the end of its quarterly meeting on ways of ending child trafficking and labour in Oyo state

According to the steering committee in the communiqué signed by its secretary, Mr Marcus Williams, poverty also stands as another major cause of child trafficking and labour in the society.

The committee said the time has come for social implementation of investment programmes that would get to the grassroots in and across the country.

“Insecurity has left many children homeless, abandoned and many have been trafficked to South-West region for exploitation and labour,” it said.

The committee added that “children and families can reach out for help through the Oyo state parliament and the desk officers in the Ministry of Women Affairs on designated numbers”,
