The Nigeria Southern Governors Tuesday asked President Mohammadu Buhari to review appointment of security agencies to reflect federal character as Nigeria’s overall population is heterogeneous.
In the communique issued and read at the end of its meeting that lasted for over two hours in Government house, Asaba by the Governor of Ondo state and chairman of forum, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the forum strongly opposed open grazing of cattle including movement of cattle across the southern Nigeria.
The forum urged President Buhari to address Nigeria on the security challenges in the country with a view to restore confidence of the people.
According to the governors who “observed that the incursion of armed herders, criminals and bandits into the southern part of the country has presented a severe security challenge such that citizen are not able to live their normal lives.
Southern governors said that the nation required urgent and bold steps be taken to restructure the Nigeria federation leading to the evolution of state police.
Meanwhile, governors of Osun state and Cross Rivers, Isiaka Oyetola and Prof. Ben Ayade were absent at the meeting while Imo and Akwa-Ibom State, Mr. Hope Uzodinma and Mr Emmanuel Udom sent their deputy Governors.
“The meeting expressed concern on the economic implications of another lockdown on the country, therefore suggested greater coordination and cooperation between federal government and States government in evolving strategies for dealing with the pandemic.”
