Insecurity: Senate won’t abandon Zamfara – Dep Minority Whip

Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u, has expressed confidence that the 9th National Assembly and the Senate in particular will not abandon the people of Zamfara state at this time of their trying moments following the spate of insecurity and banditry ravaging the state.

Senator Ya’u also applauded Monday’s ruling of the Supreme Court which turned down a request by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to review its earlier judgement on Zamfara state lawmakers (state and national) as well as the state governor.

In a statement in Abuja Wednesday, the lawmaker described the judgement as victory for democracy and a re-affirmation that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.

He said the current leadership of the Senate and indeed the National Assembly will stop at nothing within the law to ensure that Zamfara and all states under different forms of attacks are properly accommodated in terms of specific budgetary provisions and other forms of parliamentary interventions.

Further, Ya’u said this will curb the spate of insecurity and make life meaningful particularly Zamfara state and ensure that normalcy returns enabling people to freely conduct their legitimate businesses without fear of attacks or any form of molestation.

Senator Ya’u, who commended Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila for visiting Zamfara state for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation, expressed joy over the steps taken by the state governor in collaboration with the security operatives in ensuring that relative peace returns to the state.

The deputy minority whip stated further that as a parliament, the leadership of the Senate and senators have all exhibited the desire and commitment irrespective of political party affiliations to ensure that attacks by armed bandits across Nigeria are tackled with a high sense of patriotism.

He commended the governor, Bello Matawalle, for introducing the dialogue option as the surest modality to bring banditry and other criminal elements to see need to abandon their old ways.

Senator Ya’u urged Zamfara citizens to allow initiatives of the state government which are already yielding good results a chance so that peace will return to the state.

He also assured the people that the Senate will at all times act in the overall interest of the electorate and Nigeria, adding that “insecurity is a monster we must all come together and tackle irrespective of tribe, religion or political beliefs.”

He called on every stakeholder to set aside politics and whatever else will pull back the wheel of progress in the Zamfara, adding that no antics will deter him from pursuing programmes that will address the yearnings and aspirations of his people .
