Amidst fear of unabated insecurity, many delegates yesterday openly called for a stop to the ongoing National Conference until the federal government is able to find solutions to it.
A motion moved by Pastor Tunde Bakare, when information filtered in that more than 100 female students had been abducted by the issurgents in Borno, was well supported by some other speakers that the meeting should be discontinued.
Blueprint had earlier reported a move by some delegates to boycott proceedings in protest over the killings going on in the country.
But Pastor Bakare advised the leadership of the conference to halt the meeting for now.
“May I humbly suggest that we send a very strong signal from this conference that we are not safe as long as Nigerians are being slaughtered and the need to bring this conference to a halt until we see change. That will let them know that we are serious. A drastic situation requires a drastic step.
Let us take a step that this conference is about Nigeria and Nigerians and the death of one is the death of all.”
Also supporting the motion, Ambassador Abdumumini Abubakar, who also lamented what he called a degenerating situation, rose to support Pastor Bakare’s suggestion, saying “I will support
