Speaking on behalf of the farmers on Friday during a press briefing to mark the day Abuja, the PAN FCT chairman, Engr. Salami Aminu, said insecurity, storms and lack of access roads across the rural communities in the territory have led to the closing down of more poultry farms within the last one year.

Aminu who was represented by the Secretary of the Association, Hon. Musa Akeem, further called on the current administration and the Governor of Central of Bank of Nigeria to as a matter of importance instruct commercial banks to restructure their loan facilities to farmers.

He said lack of access to affordable loan facilities from Nigeria banks has made poultry business very difficult to run in Nigeria as the terms and conditions the bank gives are not always favourable to farmers, hence CBN should compel the banks to restructure the types of facilities offer to farmers.

Akeem said recent storms has destroyed over 15 poultry farms with properties worth hundreds of million wasted. He pleaded with the FCT administration to assist the farmers.

The Association also urged the government help farmers mop up excess eggs to solve the problem of gluts that has impacted negatively on the sector in Nigeria while also requesting for government to give the poultry farmers special considerations with the input distributions.
