Following the deployment of military operation against some agitators in the country, the coordinating chaplain of the National Christian Center, Rev. Peter Oluwakemi Ogunmuyiwa, has said that such move by the federal government was not the best option to bring about genuine peace across the country.
Ogunmuyiwa, who was speaking yesterday at the National Christian center during a thanks giving service organised by the National Unity and Peace Corps (NUPEC) as part of the activities to mark this year’s United Nation’s Peace day.
The cleric who called for genuine dialogue against military option said from the Biblical record peace was achieved through different means, stressing that dialogue remains the best option.
“Military action won’t bring about peace what will bring about peace is by bring together the elders and the young ones to dialogue whatever issue bothering them.”
According to him, ever since Adam and Eve disobeyed God, peace has become a difficult thing to get in the world, adding that the world can only enjoy the peace through the Prince of Peace (Jesus).
While saluting the courage of the Commandant General of the corps for forging ahead, he said for achieving genuine peace in the country, dialogue must play a prominent role.
“Today in the Wisdom of the National Assembly and from the professional angle of the National Unity and Peace Corps, it has become important that we have Nigerian Peace Corps so that we have a new approach to achieve genuine peace in every party of the country.”
While giving a vote of thanks on behalf of his organisation, NUPEC’s Commandant General Dr. Chinnedu Nneji, assured that the peace expected of his corps to bring about in the country will surely come to be.
He said his corps believes in the inter-agency cooperation that will bring about lasting peace in the country, assuring his officers and men to be hopeful that President Muhammadu Buhari will soon assent to the Bill.
However, some orphans and widows at the weekend rendered prayers to God to torch the heart of President Muhammadu Buhari, so that he can give assent to the Bill of the Nigerian Peace Corps as passed by the National Assembly.
The prayers were coming even as the National Unity and Peace Corps (NUPEC) donated some food items to the Adonai Orphanage home and Widows center in Kaduna, as part of activities marking this year’s anniversary of United Nation International Day for Peace with the team ‘together for Peace, Respect, Safety and Dignity for all.’
While donating to the orphans and widows, Commandant General of the corps Dr. Chinnedu Nneji, represented by his Assistant Commandant General (ACG) Simeon Okoro, appealed to Nigerians to allow peace to reign across the country, saying God has brought the country together for a purpose, warning against any activity that could lead to disintegration of Nigeria.
He revealed that the corps has developed action plan that would assist in resolving various crisis agitations confronting the nation.
Okoro, who was moved by the orphans and widows’ peace and love special song, urged all Nigerians, especially the well to do ones to always extend the hands of love to the orphans and widows.
He said: “it unfortunate that some people find themselves where they are not suppose to be but since it has happened we all need to show them love and care.”
Manager of the center Pastor Samuel Oyelowo, who thanked and prayed to God for President Muhammadu Buhari to assent into the Bill, noted that when the corps fully become operational it will contribute in no small way to the much needed love and harmony in the country.
While lamenting the hardship confronting this orpanages in the country, Oyelowo who is also the spokesman of the Orphanages in Kaduna state said: “I spoke about the hardship facing us in taking care of this responsibility that God has given into our hands. Sometimes we find it hard to meet up with our responsible.
“Our first responsibility is to first of all ensure that these children have shelter. The second responsibility is to make sure they have food to eat. The third responsibility is to make sure these children go to school. All these responsibilities are in the hands of Nigerians but what we are experiencing with the current hardship is that the numbers of people who support us has reduced drastically because there us no money in town.
When asked about the government’s claim that the recession has exited, Pastor Oyelowo said: “I have not feel the effect yet because the recession is still bitting so hard us and being the Publuc Rekation Officer of all the ophanages in Kaduna, I can confirm to you that other people too are complaining.”
Speaking with Blueprint, Kaduna state commandant of Peace Corps Victoria Markama, revealed that NUPEC has recently launched operation live in peace in the state.
According to her, “In Kaduna state we don’t have any problem because the state indigenes are happy with us because recently we launched operation live in Peace in Kaduna and love your neighbours as yourself. With this we were able to reached many people through our various communication means across the state with the messages of love to live together in peace which the people realy appreciated.”
