Interventions: Humanitarian affairs ministry insists on transparency

A week-long orientation, monitoring and evaluation workshop organised by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has ended with officials insisting on transparency in all their activities.

This was part of their resolutions in a communique at the end of this year’s workshop which held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja.

According to the communique, “The workshop is designed to review and validate the draft Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for the Ministry which will help to ensure that systems are in place for accountability and transparency in all activities of the Ministry, its Agencies, Programmes, and Partners.”

The Director Planning Research and Statistics of the ministry, Mr Raphael Oraeluno, said the workshop would ensure transparency in the activities of the agencies, programmes and partners of the ministry which required reliable data in the development of the monitoring and evaluation system.

“The importance of reliable data cannot be overemphasised, and this is a step in ensuring that adequate processes are put in place for effective monitoring and reporting.”

In attendance were all agencies of the Ministry including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA); National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI); North East Development Commission (NEDC); National Agency for Prohibition and Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP); National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPwD); Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Development Partners and non-governmental organisations.
