The President of International Olympics Committee, IOC, Dr. Thomas Bach Thursday has thumbs up Aduvie International School, Abuja and christened the school as an Olympics School.
Dr. Bach who was in the country for a 2-day official visit to the country, paid a scheduled visit to the school in the Jahi District, as part of his itinerary with top government functionaries, the Youth and Sports Minister, Mr.Sunday Dare , Nigeria Olympics Committee NOC president, Engr Habu Gumel and several others, while extolling the school for professionalism, Dr. Bach insisted that ‘there is excellence here , Aduvie have imbibed the Olympics spirit .
He urged the students to always do their best in everything –whether sports, academic or in their social life and to always shown respect for others no matter what might have happened.
“Respect is key. Take it as a philosophy , respect people, rules , show friendship even if you’re on the losing side. If you win show respect .Winning does not make you to be superior .This is the joy of life and live your passion for sports” he said at the colourful ceremony that was well attended by the crème la crème in the society .
To commemorate the occasion, Bach gave a plague to the Head of the school, Mr. Abiodun Olusoji.
Olusoji in an earlier remark disclosed that the Aduvie International School has won several laurels for the country with its students participating in several sporting events outside the shores of the country in USA ,UK and Netherlands to mention just a few.
He urged other dignitaries to join the IOC President to lay the foundation of the school 200-seater Sports Pavilion.
Meanwhile, the IOC President Bach, has called on Nigeria to embrace fencing saying the country can excel in the sport if it gets adequate support.
Bach, who featured in a fencing display at Aduvie International School, Jahi District, Abuja on Thursday said the nation has the wherewithal to be a force in the sport.
The display which lasted for roughly for about four minutes saw the former Olympic champion in took on a young Nigerian fencer Mariah Oguneye in a foil encounter as part of his itinerary for his visit to Nigeria of which highpoint was the commissioning of Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Headquarters in the Nigerian capital.
Oguneye was so elated about the privilege saying she dreamt to fence for Nigeria at the Olympics in the near future.
“This is a rare privilege for me to have a friendly contest with the IOC President. I am determined to use this opportunity to pursue my dream of fencing for Nigeria at the Olympics,” she said.

Bach a German lawyer and former Olympic fencer is the ninth and current President of the IOC.
