IPAC lauds INEC on Edo election

The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the success of Edo state gubernatorial election, describing it as a giant step forward in deepening representative governance in Nigeria.

The National Chairman, IPAC, Dr Leonard Nzenwa in a press release said it is a strong signal that the era of inconclusive elections are over in the country.

He congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki on his victory in the 19th September 2020, gubernatorial election in Edo State.

According to him, the success of the election is victory for democracy and sweet music in the ears of all lovers of constitutional governance in Nigeria.

He said people of Edo state have spoken with their ballots and reelected Obaseki for a second term in office to continue his developmental projects and programmes in the State.  It is democracy at its finest.

He further called on Obaseki to justify the confidence the people reposed in him and deliver dividends of democracy to alleviate their sufferings after the COVID-19 national lockdown.

“Council further applaud efforts of security agencies in containing violence and electoral malpractices during the polls, and warn electoral trouble makers to repent or face the full force of the law.

“IPAC urges stakeholders in the electoral system to respect the mandate of the people and join hands with Obaseki to move Edo State forward.

“IPAC has been in the vanguard for the conduct of free, fair, credible, transparent and peaceful elections and carried out a sensitization exercise and mobilization of Edo electorate for the governorship poll on Thursday 17th September 2020.

“ Council is happy that the good people of Edo State for heeding to its call for a credible and nonviolence gubernatorial election,” he said .
