IPCR to host first global confab on conflicts in Africa

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), in conjunction with the Institute for Dispute Resolution in Africa (IDRA) of the University of South Africa, is set for the maiden edition of International Conference on Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution in Africa.

The Institute, in a statement by its head of media, Musa Mato, stated that the conference “is a multi-disciplinary, intra-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary approach towards understanding and explaining the phenomenon of conflicts and development in Africa.”

According to the statement, the conference is aimed at strengthening the socio-cultural and academic relations between Nigeria and South Africa.

It would also explore ways of managing disputes without resorting to violence or bloodshed in Africa particularly in the post-xenophobic violence.

The conference with a theme: Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution in Africa: A Cross-Disciplinary Perspective Towards African Development is scheduled to hold in Abuja from November 25 to 29, 2019.

The statement further indicated that the director-general, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Dr. Bakut T. Bakut, would declare the event open, while the minister and the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Geoffrey Onyema, and Ambassador Zubairu Dada, are expected to grace the occasion.

The chairman, local organising committee, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, said a number of abstracts had been received from across the world which dwells on the conference’s sub-themes and related issues.
