Three weeks after the reported presence of Biafran secessionist group in Edo state, operatives of the State police command have condoned off access roads to its headquarters in Benin City.
Whilst pedestrians are barred from waiting or loitering around the command headquarters located on Central road, vehicles are diverted to other adjourning streets- thereby causing traffic gridlocks and hardship for motorists.
IPOB, a secessionist group in the South-east are reported to be responsible for attacks and arson on police formations, correctional centres and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices in Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi and Abia states.
Giant drums filled with sands are visible on both ends of the road leading to the police headquarters in Edo state.
Blueprint also observed heaps of sand-bags at the entrance gate of Esigie, New Benin, Oregbeni and Aduwawa police divisions, apparently to forestall any possible attack.
Moses Jitoboh, a Deputy Inspector General of Police had on June 2, disclosed that IPOB are meeting in parts of Edo with a view to spread their sucessionist ambition across the state.
Jitoboh who is in charge of Operation Restore Peace in South-South region listed the areas IPOB are currently holding their secret meetings to include; Igbanke, Ubiaja, Iguelaba, Igueben, Okhiahe and Ologbo
According to him, in the South South region, Edo and Balyesa are the states currently enjoying relative peace in the country.
“We have been notified that there are some points, the Ibo secessionist is meeting to create harvoc in the state.
“It will do us good for the people of those area to provide useful information about them. it is better to nip them in the bud than allowing it to grow into something else in the state,”.
