IPPIS: Buhari’s directive only for civil servants – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Friday declared that President Muhammadu Buhari did not say government wouldn’t pay its members for not enrolling in IPPIS.

The ASUU national president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, stated this Friday via a statement issued in Ibadan.

According to him, the president’s directive was only meant for civil servants.

Ogunyemi said there was an existing understanding between ASUU and the federal government on IPPIS issue leading to the union developing an alternative payment platform for its members.

“Mr. President did not say government will not pay ASUU members for not enrolling in IPPIS. The directive on IPPIS was meant for civil servants and university academics are not civil servants. We have an understanding with government to develop an alternative platform which would be sensitive to the operations of the university, accommodate the peculiarities of the university system and respect the autonomy of our universities as obtained globally,” he said.
