Iran to assist Kano indigenes with scholarships

The government of Iran is to offer full scholarships to indigenes of Kano state to study courses in Engineering and Medicine in Iranian universities, as part of moves to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and that country.
The country’s ambassador to Nigeria, Sa’eed Koozechi, who disclosed this during a visit to the Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso in Abuja, said they were encouraged to make the offer by the governor’s disposition to education.

Koozechi, who was accompanied by his deputy,  Abbas Faraji, and the First Secretary of the Iranian Embassy, Hossein Joze Nazemian, said Iran was very much interested in cooperation with Kano and Nigeria “because of the long standing relationship between the two countries.”
He said: “Iran wishes to cooperate with Kano in Education and Agriculture because you have natural and human resources and we have the expertise to support you to fully exploit the potentials for economic prosperity.”

Responding, Kwankwaso thanked the Iranian authorities for the offer, maintaining that his government was looking for opportunity to send more Kano indigenes abroad to acquire education and gain international exposure.
He said: “This scholarship will not only strengthen bilateral relationship between our countries but will consolidate our own little effort in promoting education. So far, we have sponsored well over 2, 000 students to various universities across the globe for undergraduate and postgraduate studies and we intend to do more in this area.”

The governor said Kano would be willing to cooperate with the Iranian government, especially in the areas of education, engineering, agriculture and other critical areas of that would make the state a model of economic success.
