Management of ISCOM University in Benin Republic in conjunction with the Aminu Kano Foundation have offered scholarship grant to 50 indigenes of Kano to enable them undergo various academic courses in the university based in Benin Republic.
The gesture came on the heels of growing concerns being expressed by the Aminu Kano International Foundation over the dwindling academic fortune of students in the northern part of the country which requires urgent attention.
Speaking to newsmen on the offer of scholarship to the 50 indigenes of Kano, the Northwest zonal coordinator of ISCOM University’s academic programmes in Nigeria, Malam Saminu Sanusi, said the initiative was intended to boost the academic moral of the beneficiaries who were equally expected to prove their academic prowess.
According to him, ISCOM University had reached the decision to offer the grant, considering the need for concerted effort and rapid response to support education in the northern part of the country in order to bridge the educational gap in the country.
He stressed that the management of the university would strive to keep a constant tab on the academic performance of the beneficiaries, affirming that the management of the university would never hesitate to withdraw the offer if they failed to live up to expectation.
Speaking in the same vein, Chairman of Aminu Kano International Foundation, Alhaji Abba Aminu Kano, said it had been the foundation’s cardinal thrust to support certain academic endeavours, looking at the poor economic condition of the parents of the less-privileged.
