Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, says Islam is a religion of peace and love, rather than violence or fundamentalism.

A statement issued yesterday in Sokoto by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani, stated that Wamakko gave the declaration when the Global Chief Operations Officer of Wisal Television Channels, Sheikh Taufiq Muhammad Musery, who is also one of the Imams of the Holy Mosque in Medina, paid him a courtesy call.

He frowned at the labeling of Muslims globally as fundamentalists and those who perpetrate violence.

Wamakko, who is also the chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, further expressed happiness that Islam is now fast spreading in the United States of America, United Kingdom, Asia, Europe and other parts of the world.

He promised to support the media to ensure the success of its operations in Nigeria, noting that the Hausa channel of the outfit is doing a great job of propagating Islamic religion, thereby bolstering its growth and development in Nigeria and beyond.

Speaking earlier, Sheikh Musery, who was led by a renowned Islamic cleric, Dr. Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto, extolled the invaluable contributions of Senator Wamakko to Islam for the past four decades.

Sheikh Musery also underscored the indispensable roles of the media in contemporary global affairs, promising the television channel would not lag behind.
