ITF seeks collaboration of private sector, NGOs, Politicians on skills acquisition for youth

The Director General , Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Sir Joseph Ari, has solicited for the co-operation and collaboration of organised private sector, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), individuals and politicians in the country on skils acquisition for youth and women in order to tackle the menace of social vices.

Ari who made the call onTuesday during the graduation ceremony of Trainees of the Passion to Profession Programme (P2PP) at Amuro community in Mopa -Moro local government area of Kogi state, said three years into the implementation of the  programme that commenced in 2016, over 450,000 Nigerians have been equipped with various skill through the National Industrial Skills Development Programme (NISDP). 

He said that 30 trainees were thoroughly and intensively equipped with the requisite skills in pattern drafting and garment making in Mopa-Muro local government area.

According to him, “With the current unemployment situation in the country, the number being graduated today may appear infinitesimal , but gradually through acquisition of skills for Nigerians, we will whittle the number of Nigerians that are unemployed and in poverty.

“Also we believe that  the skills the  beneficiaries have acquired will lead to sustainable livilihoods in view of the constant need for people with such skills”

The Director General who said ITF has resolved and concluded arrangements for the flag-off of the 2019 skills intervention programmes, declared that thousands will be trained in over 20 trades and craft across the country.

“The prospective beneficiaries will be train in the National Idustrial Skills Development Programme(NISDP), the Women Skills Empowerment Programme (WOSEP) , the Construction Skills Empowerment Programme (CONSEP) , the Agri-prenuership Programme, the Skills Training Empowerment Programme for the Physically Challenged (STEPP-C) among others,” he disclosed.

In his speech, the Alamuro of Amuro Oba Alfred Modupe-ayedomo said the fastest way to develop a nation was to develop the people.

While commending ITF for the training, the Royal Father appealed to the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the skills acquired to enable them train others in return.
