ITF trains 5,200 youths in skill acquisition

The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has graduated 5,200 youth trained in various skills under its 2020 National Industrial Skills Development Programme (NISDP) to make them self employed.
The youth drawn from across the country were trained in six trades including fashion design and garment making, information and communication technology (ICT), poultry production, cosmetology, aquaculture (fish production) and crop production (greenhouse technology).

Addressing the graduation ceremony of the trainees on Wednesday at the PAN Nigeria training center in Kaduna, NTI Director General/CE, Sir Joseph Ari, said the NSIDP is a skill acquisition intervention programme by the Fund to facilitate federal  government’s policy on job and wealth creation to curb unemployment and breed a new generation of entrepreneurs.
Ari, who was represented by the Director NTI, Kaduna state, Malam Yahaya Many, said, “the NISDP has equipped over N200,000 Nigerians nationwide and 2,364 were trained with skills for employability and entrepreneurship in Kaduna state.

“Despite the disruptions caused by Covid-19 pandemic, ITF implemented several skills acquisition programmes including the NSIDP, which graduation ceremony we are witnessing today.
“This phase of the programme that commenced in the last quarter of 2020, trained 5,200 Nigerian youth. The training lasted between three and six months, depending on the trade area. The beneficiaries were equipped with skills in six trades.

“In Kaduna state, 105 youths were trained in fashion design, cosmetology and ICT. Given the intensity and the very practical nature of the training that was 80% practical and 20% theory, they were equipped with the necessary skills and attitude for them.”

One of the beneficiaries, Alex Boknet, who learnt fashion design and garment making, expressed appreciation to ITF for giving him the opportunity to acquire the skill.
For Princess Joanna Emmanuel, who learnt skills in cosmetology, the training has imbibed her with skills to make up people for ceremonies, while she also has skills in the production of organic soap and other home made cosmetics.
