Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya (APC, Kano South) has described the death of elder statesman, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, as “a colossal loss” not only to his immediate family, the Kano Emirate Council, the state government, the nation, but the entire Africa. Senator Gaya, the IPU Vice President and Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, said “Nigeria will miss greatly the wealth of experience and oratory of the Danmasanin Kano, especially now that ethnic and regional agitations are raising their ugly heads.” He added that it was the respect and love he had for late teacher cum politician that he named a school after him even while he was alive. He also stated that the “only honour that will be accorded the late leader is peace and oneness.” He prayed for the repose of his soul and the Almighty Allah to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss. Gaya appealed to Nigerians to eschew violence for development.
