I’ve lost 4 properties to Edo govt’s demolition exercise, developer cries out

A developer whose residence and four other properties were demolished by Edo state government at Oke-oroma and Obagie communities, has urged Nigerians and the world at large to come to his aid.

The developer who identified himself as Osagie Wealth Efe said he alongside his three kids and pregnant wife have been rendered homeless since the demolition of his home on September 29, 2022.

Efe,  who stated that he buys and sells properties disclosed that he had spent over N70 million on the affected properties and therefore had nothing left on him to take care of his family.

On government’s call on developers to present their documents for verification and compensation, Efe said: “I have done that… How are we sure of government sincerity.

“How could a government demolish people’s homes before calling for verification. Verification ought to have come first,” he added.

The Governor Godwin Obaseki-led Edo state government had said the demolision exercise was “to make room for the development of a new town project”.

The state Commissioner for information, Mr. Chris Nehikare had said “the land was acquired by the government in 2017 and gazetted for the new town project, but had been encroached upon by land speculators”.

He, however ,called on affected property owners to come forward for verification and possible compensation.
