JAMB failure, a wake-up call

You reap what you sow, so goes the saying. How can someone with a rational mind think that the failure recorded during the just concluded JAMB UTME is an isolated happening? Without prejudice to the registrar’s report, which is the official and authentic report with regards to any examination body’s annual performance, there is no doubt that students massively failed this year.

Why wouldn’t they fail when parents are preoccupied with finding miracle centers where their wards can score 250 points and above? When students see no reason to prepare well for one of the toughest examinations they will ever write?

JAMB, I stand to be corrected, if used patriotically can bring about the attitudinal change we are most urgently in need (catch-them-young). Let the students know it pays to be honest, diligent and focused before you get a shot at fulfilling your ambitions and aspirations. Let JAMB CBT model be replicated in the administration of certificate examinations like WAEC, NECO, NBAIS, and NABTEB. If JAMB can successful conduct examination for 2.1million candidates why would the council’s and board not tag along?
