JAMB staff heaps prayers on retirees

JAMB’s Christian Family Prayer Forum, recently celebrated its retirees in a remarkable style. The event was held under the auspices of the one-hourly prayer session which holds every first Monday of the month. In addition, the Christian faithful also used the occasion to hold its Christmas Carol and thanksgiving session for  2019.

The convener of the prayer group, Mrs. Mabel Agbebaku, enjoined all staff to be grateful to the Almighty for His gift of life and good health.

While presenting gifts on behalf of the congregation, the Director, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Mr. Fabian Okoro, urged the retirees to remain good ambassadors of the board.

Also  Director, Quality Assurance, Dr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Okorie, wished the retirees a productive post-service life.

While delivering the sermon of the day, the officiating pastor, Mr Christopher Abba, charged members to strive to be better at their respective duty posts and also to thank the Almighty for the opportunity to see the end of the year and hope for a more prosperous new year.

Similarly, the Chief Imam, Uthman Miphtau, started the Muslim monthly prayer with praises to Allah.

“We seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides will never be led astray and whomsoever Allah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.”

He stated that Islam teaches us to be merciful to the entire creation, to Muslims and non-Muslims, to friends and foes alike and even to animals.

According to the Imam, Mercy (rahmah) in Islam has a very wide meaning that includes kindness, compassion, love, and tolerance, patience with people and to treat others the way we would love to be treated.

This Islamic value, he said, is at the core of the prophetic message and meaning of faith, just as it was in all of the revealed religions before Islam.

Therefore, every Muslim needs to strive to be an agent of mercy on earth. “Many, if not all of us, have experienced moments of hopelessness, the overwhelming feeling that our sins are just too much and that not even a drop of Allah’s mercy is going to reach us.

“Let me just remind you of a beautiful Hadith Qudsi, in which Allah Himself says:  ‘Even if your sins were to reach the clouds in the sky, I would forgive you (Sunan al-Tirmdhi)’.
