Factional chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Plateau state governor, Jonah Jang, yesterday berated the NGF faction led by Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, for playing politics with the suspension of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
Jang called on Nigerians to ignore statements by Amaechi’s group of governors, saying that they were reading from the script prepared by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Plateau state governor, in a statement by the NGF media officer, Kassim Yakubu, said “Nigerians have grown weary of Governor Amaechi turning every issue, even beyond his purvey, into a political opportunity.”
According to him, Amaechi does not speak on behalf of the governors in the country because majority of the governors do not share in the anti-federal government zeal that the Rivers state governor champions.
He said: “Nigerians want governors to perform their primary functions of running their states and not this obsession with President Jonathan by governor Amaechi and his cohorts. My advice to them is Nigerians and history will decide if President Jonathan has performed as president. This lowly behaviour will not win them an election.”
In another development, Jang sent his sympathies to the parents of the school children killed by the Boko Haram extremists in Yobe state, and called on security forces not to relent in their efforts to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous act.
He also sent condolences to Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state and the people of the state over the death of the speaker of the House of Assembly, Sam Adesina.
