Jibrin to face Reps’ panel over comment on Buahri’s impeachment move

Former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, is to face the Committee on Ethics over his remarks that the National Assembly’s resolution of Thursday was a purely a PDP affair.
The Kano state-born lawmaker was earlier suspended by the House for 180 legislative sitting days over his outburst on disagreements over the handling of the 2017.
The lawmaker in a statement after the resolution was passed, part of which was that President Muhammadu Buhari could be impeached, if he failed to take certain actions as recommended by the National Assembly, in which he claimed to be representing The Buhari Support Group of the National Assembly, stated that majority of members who pushed for the resolution were members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
But rising under matters of privileges on the matter yesterday, Hon. Sunday Karimi said his, and the collective privileges of PDP members have been breached by the comment, and demanded that the matter be investigated.
Also speaking in similar vein, Hon. Nicholas Osai who is the chairman House committee on Ethics and Privileges also raised issues on the breach of his privileges, presenting a copy of a newspaper in which which he said Hon. Gudaje Kazaure briefed the press and alleged that himself and Hon. Kingsley Chinda were spearheading the collection of signatures from members to impeach Buahri.
Ruling on the motions, Speaker Yakubu Dogara urged members who do not attend plenary of the House to always to do so, with a view to avoid quoting the proceedings of the chamber out of context, and subsequently referred the matter to the House committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate .
