Jigawa APC chieftain kicks against indirect primaries

A front line member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the party Alhaji yusf Ubali Hashim.
Has rejected in totality the indirect primary election into office of the state governorship election endorsed by the state executive committee of the party saying that it was clearly more of self serving than in the over all interest of the party.
In a press statement which he signed and made available to newsmen in Dutse yesterday , Hashim , said it was a fact that already, efforts to rig and manipulate the process has been deployed and from the look of things , he has no confidence that a fair and equal level playing ground for all the aspirants would be guaranteed.
” As an aspirant, I have bought my expression of interest and nomination forms for the governorship election and my belief is that this, is not about election, it is about testing our popularity at the grassroots.
Why then be afraid of that aspect of our democracy? For me and my teeming supporters, for the purpose of achieving predetermined electoral ends in favour of a chosen preferential candidate,” the statement pointed out.
The statement recalled that the APC through a statement by its acting National Publicity secretary , Yekini Nabena , has clarified that, primary elections into all elective offices of the party shall be by direct process.
It added that the statement noted that the party’s Constitution provided for indirect election and consensus however, the options He stated that Jigawa state political peculiarities indicate the imperatives of direct and indirect primaries for the overall interest of all stakeholders for the party to arrive at any position of the process ,all the stakeholders must be in agreement as directed by the national leadership of their party
