Jigawa disburses N666.737m as terminal benefits to 321 pensioners

Despite the biting effects of lockdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Jigawa state pensioners are to smile as the state government approved the month of May payment of N668, 737, 055.64k as terminal benefits for 321 pensioners.

In many states, the condition of pensioners is reportedly pathetic, as it has caused untold hardship to them due to many months of nonpayment. In some cases, pensioners die in the course of a long wait for their benefits.

Jigawa state and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has however commenced the payment of over N669 million as terminal benefits to 321 beneficiaries.

The executive secretary of the board, Alhaji Ahmad Fagam, made this known while speaking with newsmen in Dutse  Tuesday. He said the Jigawa state contributory pension scheme cannot be affected by COVID-19.

Alhaji Fagam also said the benefits were being paid to those who retired recently from civil service at the state and local government levels as well as those from the Local Education Authorities (LEAs).

He stated that the payment includes retirement and death benefits as well as refund of eight per cent contribution.

The executive secretary added that  80 of the beneficiaries were from state service,  53 from local government councils, and 188 from  local government education authority.

“The total amount to be paid to state civil service workers is N36,390,801.89, the local government beneficiaries will get N53, 477, 541.09 while the LGEA beneficiaries  will  get N431,308,487.34k.
