Jigawa to immunise 16,040 Majia residents against CSM

Jigawa state government is set out to immunise over 160, 40 people between 2 and 29 years against cerebro spinal meningitis (CSM) in Majia town in Taura local government area of the state.
This was disclosed by the state Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA) Executive Secretary, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim, through the state immunisation officer, Hassan Shu’aibu over the weekend.
About 14 children had died of the CSM in Majia area three weeks ago.
He stated that the exercise is targeted at over 160, 40 people in the 20 settlements around Majiya town, saying, “That is part of government’s effort to control cerebral spinal meningitis outbreak that occurred recently at Majia town which claimed the lives of 14 children”.
He stressed that the Majia case needed special consideration as it exceeded the number of cases considered to be an outbreak.
“Two CSM cases in every 100,000 population is considered as outbreak but the Majia case exceeded the standard,” he said.
The state immunisation officer further revealed that 17 fix post and three special teams were posted to cover the 20 settlements in Majia ward within five days, saying the exercise is in collaboration with federal government, state, local and donor agencies, respectively.
“The National Primary Health Care provided 22,000 doses of vaccination, state takes care of all the logistics and operational cost, while the donor agencies are taking care of all the technical support, monitoring and supervision of the exercise,” he said
