Jigawa state command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested hundreds and repatriated 99 illegal immigrants.
Speaking to reporters at the state command headquarters yesterday in Dutse, the state capital, the Comptroller, Alhaji Idri Isa Jere, said the exercise was conducted silently in order to avoid rancour.

He said the illegal immigrants were mostly arrested around Babura /Kazaure zone that comprised Yankwasi, Gwewa, Ronni and Kazaure.
He said: “31 of them were from Banura, while 68 were fished out from Kazaure zone. Earlier, their number was more than this, but we had to screen the Nigerians from them.

“Most of them smuggled themselves into the country through the porous border areas of Babbam Mutum and Kwagolon; and those are not where we stationed our men.”
He commended the state government for providing logistics and the needed support that made it possible for the Service to fish out the illegal immigrants.
