Jigawa police nab 15 students over colleague’s murder

Jigawa state Police Command has arrested 15 students of Government Secondary School, Karkarna, in Yankwashi local government area for allegedly killing one of their colleagues who they had accused of sodomy. Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Abdu Jinjiri, who confi rmed the killing and the arrest in a telephone interview, said the suspect got a severe beating and slipped into unconsciousness. He disclosed that they had alleged that the student (name withheld) was perpetrating homosexuality in the school, a situation they said, could spoil the good name of the school.

He said they beat him up and left him in a state of coma and thereafter took him to the dormitory where he gave up the ghost. Jinjri further said the suspects formed a committee they called disciplinary committee which they used to deal decisively with anyone found misbehaving in the school. He added that the 15 boys nabbed by the Command were helping the police in their investigation.

He remarked that as soon as they completed their investigation, they would charge the suspects to court to face trial to serve as a deterrent to others. Jinjiri warned members of the public to, henceforth, desist from taking the law into their hands, saying that the “law will not spare anyone who takes it into his or her hands.”
