Jigawa registers 900 diabetics

The Diabetes Association of Nigeria (DAN) has registered over 900 people with diabetes infection from 23 out of the 27 local government areas of the state, currently taking their medications regularly.
State chairman of the Association, Alahji Bashir Abdu Ringim, made the disclosure at the Emir’s palace, Kazaure over the weekend, in an address to mark the 2017 World Diabetes Day organised by the United Nations.
Ringim explained that the national body had marked the day in Abuja from November14 to 15, paving the way for the state chapter to mark its own programme in Kazaure, particularly because of the Emir’s passion and empathy for people living with diabetes.
He noted that the association also marked the day in Kazaure to appreciate the former chairman of the local government, Alhaji Saleh Yahaya Taki, who donated N1million to assist diabetes patients in his domain.
He further explained that the occasion was aimed at enlightening members of the association on the way and manner to manage the scourge and leave happily as citizens, saying “the disease is genetic, and inherent and not contagious.”
Bashir stated that doctors, dieticians and laboratory scientists have always advised people with diabetes to eat un processed foods, including millet, maize and guinea corn which are grounded raw and advised those ith the disease not to eat veraciously.
He appealed to the state government to establish blood screening centre in the state as well as subsidise drugs for the patients because of their expensive nature in view of the prevailing economic realities in the country.
