Jigawa sets up 2 advisory committees on flood

The governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, has announced that his administration has instituted two powerful advisory committees that will advise the state government on how to mitigate or tackle the recurring annual flooding ravaging the state.

The governor made the announcement Saturday in a speech he delivered on the occasion of this year’s Maulud celebration and Rational Durbar ,held at the palace of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Sani ii.

He said the first committee will compile the list of the victims, what they lost in terms of food crops, houses demolished and raise funds and advise on how the victims will be assisted.

Badaru stated that the second committee will consist of water scientist from home and from Neitherlands, (Holland) which will advised the government scientifically on how to minimise the calamity which always affects the socio- economic well being of the people of Jigawa state. He added that the committees are to be inaugurated next week in his office.


While commiserating with the victims, the governor said whatever disaster that befalls the people of the state, God in his infinite mercy will lessen it. He cited an example of the COVID- 19 that ravaged the world over and it was only Jigawa state in Nigeria that was not locked down completely as people were allowed to conduct their normal daily businesses. He added that the people always accept whatever happens from God in good faith.
He thanked the people of the state, particularly the traditional leaders, for good advice and cooperation given to government and congratulated the entire Muslims of the country for having the opportunity to see the important day of commemorating the birth day of the prophet.


Earlier, the Emir of Gumel in his address, called on Muslims world over to imbibe the tradition, culture and teaching of the
Holly Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
On the forth coming 2023 general elections, the Emir advised
politicians to be law abiding and play issue based politics so the election will be conducted peacefully.
