The Jigawa state and local government contributory pension board, Thursday paid N 629,404,775, 35 to 362 retirees as their terminal and death benefits.
Executive secretary of the Board, Hashim Ahmed Fagam, who disclosed this to newsmen during a press briefing in his office, said out of the amount, N 241,171,466. 20 was paid to 104 who retired from the state service; and N73, 124, 868.7 as death benefits to 28 those who died during active service.
He added that the sum of N12,689, 318.38 was paid to 15 as death pension, while N194,575.05 was paid to one person as eight per cent contributory pension balance.
Fagam further explained that the amount paid consisted that of the staff of the state government, local education authority and staff of the local government who retired from active service or died during service.
The executive secretary dispelled the rumour making the rounds that the state government had sold the Pension House to some pension administrators, saying the report was concocted and thus a lie as it had no iota of truth.
Ahmad Fagam disclosed that the board had engaged 10 new pensions administration companies for probity and accountability.
