Jigawa spent N1.5bn on cluster farming in 2017 – Commissioner

Jigawa state government spent N1.459 billion on cluster farming in 2016/ 2017 season with over 50,000 youths empowered under scheme.
The state Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Kabiru Ali, made this known while reviewing the achievements of Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar within 2016 and 2017 farming season during an interactive session with reporters in his office yesterday.
He said, out of the amount, N356 million was spent on rice cultivation in 2016 while the sum of N516 million went for wheat cluster farming in the same year.
Ali said government had also spent over N577 million on rice cluster farming in 2017.
The commissioner said participants of cluster farming programme had refunded the money they acquired in cash while others did with the farm produce they harvested.
Kabiru Ali said governor Abubakar approved the expansion of the cluster farming scheme from 50 to 70 hectares for each ward, adding that the state government had provided 21,450 tons of fertilizer from the 50,000 tons pledged.
Ali disclosed that government released N9 million for the conduct of this year’s animal vaccination exercise in which two million livestock are expected to be vaccinated.
The commissioner said 5,740 women received three goats each under micro goat rearing schemes.
