Jigawa to begin payment of N30, 000 minimum wage in 2020 – Badaru

Jigawa state governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has pledged to commence payment of the N30, 000 new minimum wage in 2020.

Governor Badaru dropped this hint Tuesday at the legislative chamber of the state House of Assembly in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital while presenting the state’s N152.92billion 2020 budget proposal.

Addressing the lawmakers while presenting the budget for scrutiny and approval, the governor said his government was passionate about the welfare of its workers.

He further explained that the state government had earmarked N77 billion for recurrent expenditure out of the total budget estimate.

He informed the House that the entire budget was about 4.5 per cent short of that for the preceding year.

He explained  that the funds allocated to agricultural sector in the 2020 appropriation bill surpassed the preceding year by about N3 billion, representing an increase of 38 per cent.

The governor added that a total of N36 billion was earmarked for the social services sector, with education getting the highest share of 37 per cent while health got 11 per cent.

In his response, Speaker of the House, Idris Garba, gave an assurance that the Assembly would pass the bill within three weeks
