Over 13 million children across the 27 local government areas of Jigawa state are to be immunised against measles

The Director, Primary Health Care Programme, Dr Shehu Sambo, disclosed this yesterday at a one-day sensitisation meeting with media practitioners on 2017 Measles Vaccination Campaign

Sambo added that the fi rst batch of the measles vaccination exercise will commence in the state from October 26 – 30, while the second batch would follow from November 2 – 7, 2017

According to him, 13 local governments will be immunised in the first batch, while the remaining 14 local governments will fall within the second batch of the exercise

“The exercise will be taken down to every community across the state and centre including schools, mosques, churches, palaces, motor parks, markets and hard-to-reach areas, among others,” he said

Sambo also urged parents and other stakeholders to bring their children to near-by centres and ensure that they were immunised, saying traditional rulers “will sensitise their subjects on the importance of the immunisation

” He advised parents and guardians against refusing to bring their children and wards for immunisation, stressing that “doing so will lead to deafness, blindness and death of the children
