Jigawa to send supplementary budget for flooding

The Deputy Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Umar Namadi, has said a supplementary budget may be sent to the state House of Assembly with the immediate effect to provide necessary intervention to the victims of flooding in the state.

The deputy governor stated this during a visit to the affected local government areas of Guri, Miga and Kaugama where heavy down pour couple with the overflow of river Hadejia sent many families homeless.

He also directed the chairmen of the affected LGAs to provide food for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the camp, while the ministry of health should ensure effective medical services to avoid any outbreak of disease.

Also, the state government has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide relief materials to the victims particularly, those taking shelter in Guri primary school.

He assured that the state government must look inward for a permanent solution to the flood disaster in the state.

“Finding a permanent solution to the problem has become necessary looking at the fact that the flood has become a yearly disaster”.
