Calm, modest, coolheaded, gorgeous are all the attributes of Kannywood star actress, Khadijat Mustapha is relatively new in the Kannywood film industry. Khadijat is in her second year as an actress and producer in the Hausa film industry.
In an interview, Khadijat said it was dreams come true for her joining Kannywood and also becoming an actress and a sensation among her colleagues.
She has produced stunning movies.
“When I was in secondary school, my dreams were to one day become a film star, and immediately after my Diploma in management in the School of Management in Kano, I had the opportunity of making a way in to the Kannywood.
“My main motivation was actress Zainab Indomie, she was an actress I love watching,” Khadijat said.
Khadijat said two years down the line, she has truly made an astonishing presence in the industry.
“Because I have passion for my acting and producing, I quickly graduated to becoming a producer. I was acting at the same time I started writing films. I produce the film (ZARA and BUTULCI) and those films went big in the Kannywood market,” she said.
She emphasized the need for more unity among actors and others in the industry.
“Although I met good actors and a family in the Kannywood, there is still the need for us to keep the fire burning by making sure we avoid anything that will bring disunity among us. The industry is rapidly growing and we need to remain focused and united.
“The recent altercation that generated irrelevant bickering among some of us which mostly I read from the newspapers is not good for the industry. I am happy that whenever something like that happen quickly we resolve it within ourselves which is the beauty of the industry,” she said.
She said although she is relatively still young, she has plenty to offer to her fans and the industry.
“I am 27 years old and I feel I still have plenty to give to the Hausa film industry. I cherish being an actress but producing is taking my time out of acting even though acting is part of me, but writing films is interesting and I love doing it,” the actress said.
Khadijat also spoke about how she intends to use her writing skills to transform the way movies are written in the Kannywood.
“The films I single handedly produced generated a lot of commendations for me. I basically like writing from a true life experience which plausibly will give the viewer an in-depth commitment to stick to the film he is watching because it is showing what he is familiar with or from an experience,” she said.
She said her next move is becoming a Kannywood director.
“That I act, produce film is not enough for me, I want to become a director also. I already have started my directing course which is an individual effort for now,” Khadijat said.
The actress called for more women participation in the Kannywood. She also commended her closest friend and colleague, Hadiza Gabon, for always having time to listen to her and give her both professional and personal advice and support.
“For my fans also, the sky is the limit. I shall always make them proud,” she said.
