Journalists and poor ethical reporting

Like any other professional practices, journalists too have their guiding laws and ethics but this days it seems the media have turned deaf ears to the principles and in their duty in promoting peace, unity and understanding between the diverse ethnic groups.

Instead of journalists leading calm and rationale discuss on the existential challenges we face with a view to promoting actionable solutions, they exaggerate the happenings especially regional and communal clashes, thus creating more problem.

Journalists who try to hold government accountable are being brutalised and sanctioned in the name of law. Politicians see the media as only megaphone and tool for disseminating propaganda.

Peace is insatiable and a panacea in attaining a sustainable development and journalists are trained to always promote it, and something that will brings rapid development to the society.

The ethical issue of not been biased or the practice of impartiality or partisanship is no longer in existence in our broadcast and print media. Our diversity is our strength, the peace and unity of our dear country is paramount. To achieve unity and national integration we must accept the differences that characterise us. Therefore, journalists should uphold professional ethics and conduct of this noble practice.
