Judgement day: After Makinde’s victory, see what tribunal did to PDP Lawmaker in Oyo

A candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state, Azeez Ajibola, has been declared the authentic winner of the March 9, House of Assembly election held in the state by the election petition tribunal.

While making judgement on the petition filed by Ajibola against the declaration of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olayanju Kazeem, as the winner of Irepo/Olorunsogo state constituency, the tribunal on Saturday, nullified the victory of PDP’s candidate.

Ajibola had challenged Olayanju’s victory on the ground that the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) falsely declared that election did not hold in Irepo ward 3 because result for the ward was burnt down at collation centre.

But the tribunal held that the election held in Irepo ward 3 and the result was issued as Ajibola tendered the carbon copy of the result issued to APC agent at the polling unit to established the case.

Justice Akpovi, in his judgment, said APC scored a total of 12, 224 votes while PDP scored 12, 070 votes in the election. Akpovi said the difference was 154 votes and declared APC as the winner.

Olayanju said the judgment would the appealed.

He expressed firm belief that he truly won the election, adding that the appeal would be in his favour, by God’s grace.
